In March I went south to Beskidy where a revival of pasturing traditions is slowly emerging.

In educational centre in Koniaków you can see and pet sheep which give milk used in traditional ‘oscypek’ cheese production. Polish mountain sheep is a breed native to Beskidy region, its wool is harsh and comes in several natural colours: white, grey, dark grey and black.

The Beskids or Beskid Mountains is a traditional name for a series of mountain ranges in the Carpathians, stretching from the Czech Republic in the west along the border of Poland with Slovakia up to Ukraine in the east [wikipedia]

Thus the fibre is perfect for rug weaving. I wove two rugs on cotton warp and named them after the region where wool comes from.
